The Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Doctoral Training programme resides within the School of Technology at Oxford Brookes University. The School is situated in a new £8 million teaching and research facility. The School also has an international reputation in several research areas and performed well in the recent Research Assessment Exercise. The ITS programme focuses on the development of intelligent vehicle and traffic systems. The two main motivations for this research are: (a) the need for safe and environmentally sustainable transport systems, and (b) to develop technology for autonomous vehicles.

University graduates from non-European Union nations, born after 31 December 1977, who have attained a 2nd- cycle university degree or equivalent or who will complete it by 30 September 2009 for candidates to the Faculty of Arts or by 30 November 2009 for the Faculty of Sciences and who have not been the object of the disciplinary measure - provided for by the academic and internal Regulations - of expulsion from the Scuola Normale Superiore can compete for positions in the doctoral programs.
Evaluation of the equivalency of the degree is entrusted, for the purposes of the competition only, to the Selection Committee as described in art. 3.
It is strongly recommended that candidates to PhD programs in the Faculty of Sciences take the "GRE – Subject Test" administered by the ETS (see www.ets.org/ gre/), within the application deadline indicated in this announcement, in the subject area corresponding to the PhD for which they are applying, as outlined below:
PhD in Mathematics or Mathematics for Technology and Finance: Subject = Mathematics;

Master/Doctoral Scholarships 2009 at School of International
School of International Health, The University of Tokyo offers advanced study and research opportunities under the Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) for oversea students from ADB member countries. Applicants for this program must have a citizenship or nationality of a developing country among the ADB member countries. The ADB-JSP at our school is designated for the Masters and Doctors Program that usually lasts for two years (for Mastes) and three years (for Doctors) and commences on 1st April every year. Language used in the program is English.
Overview
ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM
The applicants are evaluated by the School Committee and distinguished applicants are nominated as candidates for the program and subsequently recommended to the Asian Development Bank. Admission to the ADB-JSP is finally granted for about five applicants by the Graduate Council of the University of Tokyo based on the recommendation of School of International Health and approval of ADB.
The University of Tokyo maintains an extremely high academic standard with a limited number of students. Admission to the program is very competitive, thus outstanding applicants are expected to apply.
To be eligible for admission to this program, applicants:
1. must be a citizen or national of an ADB member country listed above;
2. must have finished at least 18 years of school education (except language education);
3. must hold a degree from an accredited institution that is comparable to the Master Degree awarded by the University of Tokyo;
4. must have working experience for at least two years in the field of health/medical science;
5. must be aged below 35 years;
6. must not be military personnel;
7. must be able to arrive in Japan between 1st and 10th of April, 2010
8. must agree to return to his/her home country after completion of studies under the Program;
9. must not be living or working in a country other than his/her home country;
* *IMPORTANT: The duration of scholarship is only TWO years although Doctors program lasts for three years. There is no guarantee that you can take another scholarship for the third year.
* *Applicants already have studied abroad have lesser priority.

for interdisciplinary research projects in the fields of chemistry, biology, materials science, and biophysics.
The Collaborative Research Center 765 with the integrated Graduate Research Training Group is jointly run by two Berlin universities, Freie Universitaet and Humboldt-Universita et zu Berlin, as well as by the Leibniz-Institut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP), Zuse-Institut, and Charité-Universitaet smedizin, Berlin. Academic program: The Graduate Research Training Program distinguishes itself through joint teaching and supervision of the graduates. Each Ph.D. will be supervised by one of the collaborating researchers and two other mentors. The core teaching program consists of interdisciplinary lectures and seminars. Terms of Grant: The scholarships will be awarded for one year; the earliest start is on August 1, 2009. After one year, scholars may apply for funding and internship extension through their research groups. Doctoral fellows will receive a stipend of € 1.000 per month. An additional material cost allowance of € 103 per month will also be paid. A child care allowance may be granted if applicable.
Application: Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter with the sub-project number and name of the group leader with whom the applicant would like to work, as well as their curriculum vitae, copies of their qualifying academic certifications, and two letters of recommendation from academic teachers. Applicants should have gained a top place in their graduating classes and hold a master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry, biochemistry, biology or pharmacy. Doctoral position in Climate Change & Energy Policy
The Ifo Institute is one of the leading economic research institutes in Germany. Its international reputation is based on its research, service and policy advice. It is a member of the Leibniz Association and, as part of the CESifo Group, works closely with the University of Munich (LMU).
Our research team in the area of Climate Change and Energy Policy is being expanded to include the following position:
Doctoral position
The doctoral candidate will have the chance to earn a doctorate in the area of climate change and energy policy and will work on projects of this research team.
All doctoral candidates are expected to present their research results at conferences and as articles in refereed journals.
The successful candidates must have an excellent degree in economics as well as proficiency in English and German. Knowledge in the area of research (environmental and resource economics) as well as the theoretical foundations of economics (especially allocation and welfare theory) are expected. Ability to use econometric software programs (Matlab, Stata, Eviews or R) is advantageous.
The doctoral positions are for half of the normal working hours and pay is according to the German public service pay scale (TV-L) (half of E13). The contract is for an initial two years with the possibility of extending.

Our research team in the area of Climate Change and Energy Policy is being expanded to include the following position:
Doctoral position
The doctoral candidate will have the chance to earn a doctorate in the area of climate change and energy policy and will work on projects of this research team.
All doctoral candidates are expected to present their research results at conferences and as articles in refereed journals.
The successful candidates must have an excellent degree in economics as well as proficiency in English and German. Knowledge in the area of research (environmental and resource economics) as well as the theoretical foundations of economics (especially allocation and welfare theory) are expected. Ability to use econometric software programs (Matlab, Stata, Eviews or R) is advantageous.
The doctoral positions are for half of the normal working hours and pay is according to the German public service pay scale (TV-L) (half of E13). The contract is for an initial two years with the possibility of extending.

Our research team in the area of Business-Cycle Analyses and Surveys is being expanded to include the following positions:
Doctoral position
Two doctoral candidates will have the chance to earn doctorates under Professor Kai Carstensen and to conduct research on macroeconomic issues (analyses and forecasts) using Ifo survey data (for the first position) and in the area of monetary macroeconomics (for the second position).
All doctoral candidates are expected to present their research results at conferences and as articles in refereed journals.
The successful candidates must have an excellent degree in economics as well as proficiency in English and German. Knowledge in the areas of research (macroeconomics and statistics/economet rics; macroeconomics and monetary policy) as well as the theoretical foundations of economics (especially allocation and welfare theory) are expected.
